This session re-conceptualizes the 1920s as a decade of tremendous tension underlying the economic prosperity. Numerous changes came to Tennessee after the Great War such as the automobile, the radio, movies, and retail shopping opportunities. We will relate those changes to the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan in Tennessee and the 1925 Scopes Trial.
