Published in 1962, The Tall Woman tells the story of Lydia Moore McQueen and her East Tennessee community. Lydia marries shortly before the Civil War; her husband Mark fights for the Union and returns a changed man. Dykeman’s lyrical prose recounts the next twenty-five years of Lydia’s life, as her family grows and old tensions simmer in the community. THS Executive Director Jennifer C. Core, who was a student of Dykeman’s, will join the discussion of this classic of Appalachian literature.
