In this closing lecture, we will explore the unsuccessful efforts of the Confederate Army of Tennessee to retake the city of Nashville.
After launching assaults from Murfreesboro, Chattanooga, Franklin, and then the Battle of Nashville, the war in Tennessee ends. How did Tennessee respond to the coming of peace? Tennessee, the last state to secede from the Union, will become the first state to be readmitted. African American Tennesseans approach the peace with great optimism, striving for family reunions, education, and independence. How will the former Confederates respond to the changes brought by the war?
