This novel, set in East Tennessee in the interwar years, follows a couple and the effects of the New Deal and the Manhattan Project on their community. At the dawn of the Atomic Age, the characters’ lives are changed irrevocably by technology. Evidence of Things Unseen was a finalist for both the 2003 National Book Awards and the 2004 Pulitzer Prize.
