Join Tennessee History Day staff and fellow educators in a workshop exploring the application of Tennessee Social Studies Practices and the National History Day program.

Participants are introduced to Tennessee History Day, a year-long, project-based inquiry curriculum that engages students in grades 6–12 in the process of research and interpretation of historical topics related to an annual theme. Participants are also exposed to the Library of Congress’ Teaching with Primary Sources program, which helps teachers use a variety of digitized primary source materials alongside literacy strategies in the social studies classroom.

Educators will hear how National History Day can bridge the gap between content and the application of social studies practices in the middle and high school social studies classroom. Then, participants will discuss the meaningful use of SSPs, explore NHD and Library of Congress materials, and collaborate on implementation strategies.

Attendees will receive their professional development certificate and a $50 stipend after completing a final survey. The certificate will be shared to the email used at registration. Curriculum materials and lunch to be provided.
