How to Approach Bias in Primary Sources
MON., AUGUST 21, 2023
Just because a primary source has a perspective, point of view, or bias does not mean that it is not a good source to use. In this session, Teaching with Primary Sources-MTSU will discuss how to identify perspective, point of view, and bias in primary sources and discuss each with students. The session will explore activities to analyze bias across multiple sources to present a wide range of perspectives. The session will conclude with a discussion of best practices for accessing primary sources in the Library of Congress digital collections.

Authentic Assessment and National History Day
TUES., AUGUST 22, 2023
In this session, participants will discuss authentic assessment through project-based learning, specifically when using the National History Day framework. This session will include: consideration of authentic assessment, introduction to the National History Day framework, analysis of resources, available modifications, large group discussion, and questions. NHD is a year-long curriculum enhancement program that engages learners in grades 6-12 in the process of discovery and interpretation of historical topics.
